i work in a prison in florida, it seems so many blacks are converting to islam. then they rant and rave all day long about how they are political and religous prisoners held captive by the "evil" empire of america.
it seems to me they are just coming up with a justification of why they are in prison besides the fact they are criminals.

Some see the hypocrisy in Christianity and see Islam as the only option for a belief. Also, understand that not every one is converted to Islam. For example, you have 5%s who are not Islamic, in that they follow the Koran, but are Islamic in that they feel that they are submitting to the will of Allah.
Islam has many different branches just like Christianity and differ in doctrine greatly. And let's face facts, America is not a righteous nation. So where does that leave it? Back to the topic, it could have something to do with pride also. I mean a religion that tells you you're God can inflate ego.

I think,maybe, the prisoners should be treated properly by the jail authorities...Maybe then they wouldn't want to convert to Islam...Since they believe Islam is loathed by prison officers(who are surely gonna be Christians),they're naturally inclined to convert to that religion.....That's what's may be happening there

Maybe because the ones that preach Islam in prison understand the black men behind bars plight. All are not criminals, some are just guys that made a mistake, the same mistake white guys make but instead of getting probation like the white guy the black guy gets sent to jail.

Its simple. In prison, race is a HUGE HUGE HUGE issue, so most people white or black conform to a certain society and believe system simply to survive. And that's what it is self preservation and survival.

It's interwoven with black power. If a bunch of mormans showed inmates how they have been being opressed to make others rich you would see a rise in the covert rate to mormans.

Well... Islam doesnt believe in homosexuality and maybe the fellow muslims protect their members from prison shower .. mishaps.

For the same reason that many whites who go to prison convert to white supremicism. In prison, it pays to be in a group.
