Why would you say he's overhyped? Could it be the 4 NBA championships? Or the 2 MVPs? Or the 3 NBA Finals MVPs? Or the 8 first team all-NBA? Or being the ONLY player in NBA history to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds for 13 consecutive years? Or the 14 NBA All Star appearances? Or that he is the NBA all-time leader in offensive rebounds? Or that he is 3rd in career FG%?
I'd say anyone asking your question is young and didn't see Shaq in his prime. He could dominate a game at both ends of the floor.

The most overhyped player in the nba right now is Yao Ming! There are a few others who were hyped but couldn't do anything with their talent such as Larry Hughes, Shaun Livingston, Joe Smith, Darius Miles, just to name a few there's more but to say Shaq is overrated please what have you been watching? Jason Kidd thats a joke right? He's about to have the second most triple doubles in league history and you say he's overrated? (in response to someone elses post)

Shaq isn't an overhyped player, especially seeing as his offensive role has decreased. If anything, he's better now.....the old Shaq in his younger days wanted to be the focus of the offense. Now, he's happy in letting D-Wade be the catalyst of the offense. I would cast my vote for Amarie Stoudamire as overhyped, seeing as though his team went deep in the playoffs without him, and he really has no other scoring threat other than dunking perfectly placed ally-oops from Steve Nash.

That's hard to say. Was he over-hyped because you feel he didn't live up to expectations? I'd have to disagree. He's pretty much proven himself as the most dominant center of the last decade at least. Michael Jordan has been hyped infinitely more than Shaq, but most everyone believes he lived up to the hype. Shaq creates most of his publicity himself, by saying witty things, commenting on major issues, starring in movies and videogames. He wasn't so much a product of the system as he used the system for himself.

Lebron is the most overhyped player in the NBA, Shaq was the most dominant center in the NBA when he was younger (Shaq has 4 rings) .

Are you kidding? Shaq is a amazing player, a great person, and deserves everything he gets. I would put him as the 3rd greatest center ever right behind Kareem Abdul Jabar and Wilt Chamberlain. Shaq is a man who I think in abou 7 years, will be in the Hall of Fame.

No, Shaq was the most domonating player in the game. D Wade, Lebron, and Nash are all over-hyped more than Shaq. Shaq lived up to the hype and more
