Okay so you are in the mall. Somebody drops $100 on the ground. You really want something and barely have enough for that. So you could take it and spend it. Or you could give it back to the person who accidently drop it...what would you do?

You could put this situation anywhere. Basically you found $100 on the ground.

Give it back to the person who dropped it. They may need it more than me!

Going by your idea, I'm in the mall and actually see someone drop a hundred on the ground. I'll give it back. Chances are, if he or she has a hundred dollar bill just lying around loosely enough to fall out without being noticed, it's not a big deal for them but it's still a hundred bucks they dropped. If I were out in a park and just happened to find a hundred bucks and no one around, I'd give it to the nearest homeless person could find. As I see it, it's in his yard.

If I know who dropped it I would give it back to them. I wouldn't though go around and ask people "hey did you drop a 100 dollars?" because they will all say yes and take it. Unless I am sure who dropped it, I won't give it to anyone. That said, a week or two ago I was at a restaurant and one guy forgot his keys right next to where you pay for the food. I could have easily taken his car without him noticing it. But of course, I gave it back to him. I am so righteous!

I would give it back to the person . I could never keep it what if that was the money need for their meds, or maybe all they have for groceries. most people assume that if a person is at the mall they have money not true. many Senior citizens go to eye Dr. , go to walk or have an exercise class/physical Therapy after heart sugary or joint replacement. Besides that if you know who dropped it and you keep it it is stealing. You know this or you wouldn't be asking.

This has happened to me twice in less than a month. The first time was out in a parking lot in the rain. I found a fifty dollar bill and kept it.

The second time was at a fair. I picked a wallet up off the ground. Inside was a person's name. I looked him up in the phone book, called him to identify the wallet and get his address, and mailed it to him. It also contained $50.

So, for me it would depend on whether or not I thought I could locate the rightful owner.

Give it back to the person.

And just in case someone is saying....."Yeah, everyone says that, but what would they REALLY do?", that essentially DID happen. I was paying for something, looked on the floor and saw a $100 bill. I gave it to the cashier, who said he knew who dropped it and would probably be back. Of course, HE might have kept it for all I know.....but I did the right thing!

My son actually found $500 on the ground in the parking lot of a grocery store. He went inside to 'report it' but since there were no cars near to where he found the money, they told him to 'keep it' (he was only 13) ... he ran all the way home without the loaf of bread I'd sent him to get, and gave it to me. We were terribly poor and that $500 meant we could actually eat meat and not just macaroni and mushroom soup.

If I saw someone drop the 100 I would give it back but if I found it while walking down the street it's mine.

I'd have to give it back, not even on moral grounds, but because I couldn't live with myself otherwise... I know if it was me that dropped it, I'd be devastated and in real trouble to feed my kids that month, so I'd assume that it would be needed by the person who dropped it too.

If I found a hundred dollars on the ground I'd keep it. If someone dropped the hundred dollars, I'd look at them, decide if i thought they were nice or not nice. If they seemed nice I'd give it back to them.. If i thought they were a holes id keep it.
