Sheez... that's like asking the difference between cheese and oatmeal. Where do you begin?

The three core ideals of the Roman Republic were autocritas, dignitas and virtuitas. (Authority, by gaining political power/influence and using it well; Dignity, by living a lifestyle of culture and following of Roman tradition; and Virtue, which was following one's duty to the State: military service, civil service, duty to the Senate, People and City of Rome. These three ideals governed Roman life for centuries. While they endured, Rome endured. When they failed, Rome failed.

What are Canada's core ideals, if any?

Well, there's no Emperor in Canada... regardless of how Mr Harper thinks of himself *chuckles*. Also, we Canadians don't condone slavery, whereas it was common in ancient Roman culture, though we do wear togas, sometimes...

But seriously, Wikipedia has a good overview, you can easily see the relationship between theirs and Canadian modern culture & politics.
