I have been shy all my life and I am so awkward (especially at my highschool age) that people probably take my silence as bitchiness/ snobiness. And I do try to talk, but after a few words, conversation stops. Don't get me wrong, I am not a freak or such, just painfully shy and far from being a social butterfly. Help?

I would make a list of interesting questions or topics on a piece of paper. Memorize it. When you are talking to someone and the conversation hits a stand still, bring up one of your questions. Keep the list with you, add or erase topics when needed. Also, just be yourself. Don't be fake, people can see right through it. Good luck

Use the old Who What,Why, Where, and When to keep a conversation going. Asked opened question to get a person talking. Everyone likes talking about them selves so capitalize on this. If you are so worried about how you look then just say "I am not very interesting so please share you life with me".

If you can't initiate a conversation, listen and and look interested. Then once an idea pops out, say it.
