What does it mean, in relation to genetics and/or DNA technology, to say that an organism is 'transgenic' or 'transformed?' I have a test tomorrow. Thanks!

This means that the organisms has had the DNA from another species inserted into its genome. For example, if a scientist inserts a gene from one plant into another to give it a longer shelf life, that plant is now called "transgenic."

A transgenic organism has been given a gene from another species or another breed.

The process of putting this gene into the organism is called transformation.
