The Colorado Avalanche would not have two Stanley Cup championships and all of those Division titles if not for Joe Sakic. He is one of the best all-time, and it is fitting that he is a top 10 all-time scorer in the NHL and has over 600 goals, all with the same franchise. He is the Colorado Avalanche.

Umm... yes. Hes one of the all time greats, and he's barely lost a step. He's been the Avs' anchor for quite a while.
Their championship team of 00'-01' was one of the all time best teams. Great star power in Sakic/ Forsberg/ Bourque/ Blake/ Roy. Great supporting cast with Foote/ Tanguay/ Hejduk/ Drury/ Deadmarsh/ Skoula. That team was so loaded they would have competed for the cup even without Sakic.

Sakic is obviously good, a 600 goal scorer, a HOF but he is getting old and the Avs are not going to make the play-offs, not his fault though, he is still going strong. They need to buy out Theodore's contract. I will remember Sakic as a Nordique too. he is a guy IMO that will spend his career with one organization, but nothing suprises me anymore. I thought Smyth would be an Oiler for life too.

The avalanche would definitely be a lesser team without Joe Sakic on it. How much less would depend on how much they'd been able to learn from him.

Joe Sakic is going to the hall of fame, no question.
As for the Avs, they would not be nearly as good. However, they would probably have gotten some other very good player to play for them instead.
However, the team as it is now really revolves around him.

He has shown he is just as good without Forsberg. i once heard people say Forsberg helped because that gave Colorado 2 lines.
But Sakic has been getting it done for a long time. hes a great center and a leader as well. I'd love him for my team.

He's a good player, and the Av's wouldn't be crap without him! That's why I wish there were hard hitting defencemen still in the NHL! So they can put Joe on his ***, cuz he can't score there! Can you tell that I play defence???

is he talking about retiring? I mean, Chris Chelios is older then he is... so I really wouldn't say Joe is old just, old-school :)
