My son had a fever yesterday, this is what I found online.

Try to get it under control with tylenol, even if you decide to take him to a doctor you'll want to give tylenol first and then tell the doc the time and amount given.

The temperature is not the only thing to look at. Does he have any other symptoms? If he is sick w/ a cold, a temp can be from that too. If he is lethargic, has vomiting and diarrhea and has had no urine in > 6-8 hours he should be seen, or If he is super irritable, crying all day. You can try a lukewarm bath, just don't chill him or that will just cause the body temperature to raise again. LIghtweight clothing and lots of fluids. You can use acetaminophen(Tylenol), or ibuprofen(Motrin/Advil) is ok at this age now too.
FYI: Rubbing alcohol is not recommended and neither is aspirin in infants. You use acetaminophen or ibuprofen is ok in infants >6months of age. Temperatures can be beneficial, it shows the body is working to kill whatever it is invading the body. Again a temp. can be from a cold virus aka upper respiratory infection. On the other hand it could also be from ear infections and other things that need attending. So again, check his other symptoms.

A lot of factors go into this decision. Those readings aren't too alarming. Does the fever go down when you give aspirin or such? If it does, he's probably OK. Is he crying? That can raise the temp.. Is it going up quickly? Time is of the essence in some diseases like meningitis, so don't wait to consult your pediatrician.

Try to keep it down by alternating tylenol and motrin. I think motrin is the best for high fevers. Give him a cool bath, or put a cool wash cloth on his forhead. If none of these work then take him to the hospital. Good luck

Patsy, Children under the age of 16 SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN ASPIRIN!
Do you want to edit your answer so that it reads 'baby paracetamol'?

If the temperature is rising inspite of Calpol/Tylenol, strip him off and keep him cool by using a fan and call a doctor for advice.

Is your baby teething? That might be the cause...my daughter had some horrible temperatures when her teeth broke through!

They say anything above 101.5 for a child newborn to age 3 is considered serious, and needs to be brought down. I would take him in, personally. A high fever is his body's sign that he's fighting off some sort of infection, and with it climbing, i'd be concerned! Good luck!

well my daughter just got over the flu with a high fever and i put her in luke warm bath. she screamed the whole time but her fever broke. also you can rub the baby down with rubbing alcohol. that works good too. in adults a high fever is very bad over 103. but in infants i cant really remember. but try the alcohol or a bath and see if that brings it down. good luck and if it doesnt bring it down some then your only alternative is to take them to the er.

I just wanted to tell you...someone suggested rubbing down your baby with rubbing alcohol...Never do that unless you dilute it with alot of water. Alcohol can be absorbed right through your baby's skin and you can actually poison your child.
At 104 I would panic and take a trip to the ER.

Go, go now. Infants cannot withstand spikes in temps, my 5 month old had seizures from a fever.
