Women and men can certainly be friends. My best friend was a male and I still call and talk to him and the miles and years melt away. He was my best resourse for anything about males and we have a great deal of mutual respect for each other. He was the one who interested me in the whole idea of feminsim and equality. My life would be far poor and less interesting and fun if it were not for him and the wonderful times we shared.
There must be boundaries before this can be achieved and making these clear cut can allow two people of different genders to learn so much, without involving sex in this equation.

Yes they can. I'm friends with a lot of men, and my boyfriend agrees. He's been friends with a woman for most of his life. He had thoughts of being with her when he was younger but it passed and they've been friends for a long time since. I think men who don't think they can be just friends with a woman aren't able to appreciate a woman's personality and just look at women as sexual objects.

It is possable, and many have them. I have know several woman for over 20 years, I hoped for more but in the end I knew that we would better as friends and am glad of it.
So are they, most are happily married to the man of their dreams.
Depends on the man himself and how he feels about how men and women react to each other.

I think that no matter what happens between friends, there is always a thought that something "could be'. Perhaps as a rebound, backup, whatever. There is ALWAYS the option of something happening between two heterosexual people of the opposite sex. Even so, it is still nice to have friends of the opposite sex. Both people must be mature and acknowledge that the relationship is platonic in order for it to work.

Gay men and straight women, or straight men and gay women, sure. Those of you who state they have male friends not in a situation above mentioned should know that the friend in question has checked you out more than once, as well as other things atleast once thinking about you.
They'd never admit it openly of course, its just the natural reaction to being in close proximity to what your body is steering you towards with each excretion of hormones.

Speaking as a male, yes, but there is probably still a (sexual) attraction. Guys just don't have to act on it. Friends are friends, and if a sexual relationship isn't going to work, it isn't going to work, and we can leave it at that.

I am a woman and I have a close male friend. It's only a problem when things about the friendship are hidden from your partner.

Yes, it`s possible. My best friend is a man. It`s nice to gain perspective from the opposite sex. Men think differently, I like to listen to him, he can be more objective than me....He`s sensible, and caring, at the same time!!

That's a tough one. I think it depends on the level of closeness. It seems only natural that feelings might develop the closer the two get. Unless one of them is gay.
