ok i live in a carpeted apartment and every time i touch the thermostat or a light or something steel i get shocked. the shock is hard and loud too lol, fricken hurts. anyway i know its from static buildup but how can i stop it?

since it is winter, the air is probably dry which causes the static. buy a humidifier

You're getting the static from shuffling your feet. Just try to pick up your feet more when you walk, that way you won't create as much friction, and not as intense of a shock. Also, get a humidifier, if you raise the humidity in your room, you'll experience less static electricity. I've also hard leather soles help too.

Do you use fabric softener sheets? Those help. You may be able to go to a place like Office Depot or Comp USA and get a pad to touch that de-statics you. Or even just a small piece of metal might do it. That's why some gas stations have "touch here" so that you don't spark when getting back into your car after getting gas.

Hey Marky, yeah, you need humidity. Anything that will add sssssteam. Boil some water, make pasta. Get a bunch of plants. That fountain idea is good too. Do you like fish? Get an aquarium. Also there are anti-static sprays for areas... they do work... but I think they smell like... a little funny, like glue or chemicals, but... better to be called Marky instead of Sparky!

You can add a humidifier to your central AC unit.
You could also get a small decorative fountain & keep the water running in it
Both of these will add moisture inside your house & decrease the shocking.
