terry Gilliam's 'Brazil'...I just was not prepared for that ending...him sittingin the chair with that vacant look on his face...and that music...(the horror!!!)...that infernal/creepy/haunting music playing just before the credits begin to roll. That ending ran inside my head for weeks...
Faye Dunaway nails the ending of The Thomas Crown Affair. The last five minutes is exquisite...Faye there in the graveyard...again with the music oh-so-very-appropriate...the sun shining on her...as the plane goes overhead...and she reaches out as if to touch...the love of her life slipping through her fingers...a simply beautiful ending...
Robert Montgomery and Evelyn Keyes shine in the ending of
Here Comes Mr. Jordan(1941) . Heartbreakingly sweet ending...brilliantly composed...with moments inside that moment at the end...when the boxer stumbles into Bette logan on his way home after winning his fight. The dialogue here transported me...the actors superb...one of my favorite endings of all time.
The last ten minutes of Lost Horizon (1937)...they just don't make endings...or movies like this anymore. Talk about love conquering all...A classic.

Crying Game -- I saw it the day it opened in the US for early screenings so I only expected a story about the IRA in Northern Ireland...totally wasn't expecting that.
The Usual Suspects is one of my favorite films and it has a great surprise. Primal Fear is the other one that caught me off guard. Great acting in both.
