Depends on the car make and engine type. Some cars were notorious for blowing head gaskets like older V6 Fords.
You may need to get the head machined true again, as the overheated engine may have warped it, especially if its aluminum.
You need to establish why the gasket blew in the first place, did the radiator leak, is the water jacket clogged with gunk, was the coolant too low, did you have the correct ratio of water to antifreeze. is the engine out of tune causing it to labor and get hot.
There are many causes of blown head gaskets.
And lastly is the car worth the trouble and expense.
Best of Luck

Doing it yourself/with help? I'll support anyone with the chops to do it -yourself.
I will guess you have researched the hows and wherefores- it is not that hard if you consider each step first. When you have the head off, check closely where the gasket let go. If the web between two adjacent cylinders broke out, check the head and block for erosion caused by hot gases traded back and forth. A breakout into the cooling system is less problematic that way.
I worked on a Honda that blew gaskets 3 times before the head was checked for warpage and finally milled flat to get a fix. Having a machine shop dress the head surface is good insurance.
By the way, if the engine overheated more than a couple of times, go ahead and replace the o-ring valve seals. Excess heat can easily dry out and crack the neoprene, making the engine pull in oil and then smoke blue. Good luck with your project.

If the blown head gasket is fixed right it wont blow out a second time, most of the time the reason the gaskets blow out is a problem with the car overheating, which could be from a number of things.

the chances of a head gasket blowing 2 times within 50000 miles of each other is very uncommon, when you do it a second time you need to spend a little bit more money, and do it right, have a good machine shop check the head and block for warpage, also make sure that you contact your local dealership and be sure that the engine does not require torque to yield bolts, and once you replace it again, check the engine to make sure it is running under 210 degrees if it isn't your engine is overheating causing the problem.... good luck

exelent thinking. have the head and engine checked over. both items may need to be plained, before installing a new gasket. It would be best if you had some time to go over it and do it the right way, first time out.

i own a repair shop, and it probably will blow again if you don't have the head trued up on it,id say it will have a slight warp right in the middle of it,most of these do,when they blow a gasket, but have it trued up,and use new head bolts, and it will be fine, good luck,i hope this help,s.

IF YOU DID NOT DO A GOOD CLEAN UP JOB ON THE HEAD THE FIRST TIME, AND USED THE WRONG GASKET, YOU COULD REPEAT THE DAMAGE. IF I DID NOT SHAVE THE HEAD I USED A GOOD GASKET WITH PERMATEX AND MADE SURE IT WAS ALL CLEANED UP. AND PUT THE CORECT TORQUE ON BOLTS. DENNIS .K
