I've been researching hemp lately, and the potential benefits are amazing. Including:

*A clean burning fuel that's cheap to produce (Hemp being a resiliant plant that's easy and fast to grow)

*A fiberboard that's 3 times stronger than the fiber board being
produced now. Could be used for housing and would eliminate using trees instead.

*Could replace cotton. Since marijuana is a resiliant plant, it's easy to grow organically, unlike cotton, which is what almost 50% of pesticide use in the country goes towards

So, why aren't we taking advantage of this?

For those who are worried about us all "getting high all the time" there's been a strain of marijuana plant that produces little to no high that was developed quite awhile ago and is being cultivated in other countries.

steve,
it wouldn't have to be that expensive if we started producing it en masse. It's a weed for christ sake. Is there any other type of crop that's easier to grow?

I agree with you completely. Industrial hemp has the potential to have one of the most anti-inflationary impacts on our economy. If you are worried about stoners: industrial hemp is a dominant strain; its pollen will neutralize any "illegal" hemp grown in the area. It has uses in food products, fuels, oils, cosmetics, textiles, papers, construction materials and many other uses. It is clean, quickly renewable. A 4 acre hemp crop can be grown and harvested several times per year and yield more paper product than 10 acres of trees which take decades to grow.

i have researched hemp for 25 years
it clearly is the bush that burned on the mount [ex 3;2] its design as seen on the mount [ex 25;30] is clearly the variety found on the hunter river in the sixties a seven branched type
unnamed but able to be clearly seen in police photos of the time

it clearly is the tree growing by the river of life rev22;2 ,its fruits [uses] in each season are indeed over 30,000 more than one each month
it has seeds that nearly need to be crushed to make a diesel replacement ,clean burning and able to be produced locally
bio fuels can be made from the remaining mass or oil ethanol ,
paints varnishes ,paper ,fibre

it can replenish and restore depleted soils ,has low water needs ,can grow any where in the world
can grow in swamps and even deserts no wonder satan declared war on a plant

I have read that back in the thirties there was a small company called Dupont that was investing time and money into a fiber we know today as nylon. At the time Dupont had strong power in the legislature and they made hemp illegal to grow so there was no competing fiber. I believe it was 1939.

Pharmaceutical companies are spending billions of dollars a year to synthesize the active chemicals in marijuana. If hemp (and marijuana) is legalized they stand to lose a LOT of money. You can bet they are lobbying against legalization.

WE WERE! At least, we used to. Open up your history book and you'll find that a majority of the founding fathers of our nation were in fact HEMP FARMERS! So I agree with you in not knowing what the issue is with hemp!

hemp isn;t used for two reason-
1: the by-product marijuana
2: the paper business was declining and it was run by a powerful, influencial man. thus he had the hemp business ended
