I'm not sure if parasol is just another word for umbrella, is it? If not, what is the difference then?

Thanks in advance.

No, while they can serve the same purpose in keeping the sun off, a regular umbrella is usually waterproof, while a parasol is not. Parasols are lightweight fabric sunscreens used in the sunny weather, and not much good in a downpour. Best wishes

NO. A parasol is a delicate (umbrella) that keeps the sun out of one's eyes, not meant for rain. Watch the movie:Somewhere Tomorrow with Chris Reeve and Jane Seymour, it is set back in time with an emphasis on time. She uses a parasol.

Parasols were used mainly to protect skin from the sun. Umbrellas can be used as a sun shade also but it's mainly for rain

No, an umbrella is used to keep rain off, they are usually made of metal ribs and spines and are covered with a nylon-polyester waterproof fabric. A parasol is usually wood ribs and spines and covered with a light decorative fabric to shield you from the sun.
