Would you even know it? Obviously you need to take the ring to a professional jeweler in order to know if its real diamond or not. Nowadays even some jewelers it can be difficult to tell...anyways... if u were to take it to a professional to check...doesnt that say something about you? marraige is suppose to be about love not materials.

so the question is...

would you get it checked? if so...why!
if not, does it even matter?

You really should expect that women will take the ring to get it appraised the first chance they get. All their friends will ask them about the color and clarity, and they will be prepared with the answers.

They also want to know if you are cheating them into marriage with a fake diamond. Suffice it to say, if you are gonna go cheap/fake, you better discuss it with her before you give it to her or there's gonna be a problem.

I would have it appraised for insurance purposes. My husband gave me a very small diamond 30 years ago. If it had been cubic it would have worn down around the edges by now. I didn't mind because we were both college students and he didn't have much money. Love is not about material things but it is about trust. Do not try to sneak this by her . Tell her you love her so much and you would love to get her something bigger but you can't afford it. Let her choose if she wants a bigger simulated stone or a small real one. On my 20th Anniversary I got a beautiful ring with 5 diamonds in it.

I wouldn't go out there and have it checked at all. I would be even thankful that my husband gave me a ring even without a stone or diamond on it. The love is why he gave it to me, not the material thing. He gave me the ring because he loves me! (smile)

if it doesn't matter if it's real or not, why even get a ring at all! if a guy can't drop a couple grand on a ring his wife is going to wear forever... anyway i would get it checked, just so i didn't look like a retard when someone asks or points out that it looks fake!!

I would not have it checked. It is meant to be a symbol of love. So it should not matter if it is fake or real or even how big or expensive it is. It should show unity not social status. She does not deserve you!!!!

Just tell her the truth!! "Baby this is a fake, but I love you and if this marriage lasts for more than 10 years we can upgrade to the real thing."

The real question is, would I even care... And the answer is no. I would tell him to take the diamond back, and get me a blue topaz ring instead.

Who cares about the ring. (I know like 95% of the women care) To me it would not matter-I would not get it checked.

This is a question of choice. I would not have it looked at and really would not car as long as it looked nice and not cheap. Still my husband feels differently. He thinks it has to be real.
I think it is a question for your girl. You don't have to ask her directly but you could ask her in general. Maybe shop with her or ask one of her friends.
