A "go-getter" (hyphenated) is someone who aggressively goes after something.

I think you mean "go getter". This describes a person who aggresively pursues what he/she wants. They don't wait for good things to just happen, they "go" and "get" what they want!

Personally, my get-up-and-go got up and went years ago...
