Yes, Louis and Marie went first, but by the end of the Reign of Terror there were an estimated 40,000 deaths. The period of January 1793 to July 1794 was turbulent. The Reign culminated with the death of Robespierre (the best known and most influential of the members of the Committee of Public safety which "oversaw" the Reign) and his friends Danton and Desmoulins on July 28, 1794.

Most of the ones executed were Girondins, people that at one time fought for the revolution, but disagreed with the Jacobins that held power, so the were prosecuted for there political beliefs
