Well its quite simple back in the 1800s there was a forest with alot of reindeers one day a war jet crashed carrying nuclear weapons(Which were later discoveres by Sudam Hussein)one very young reindeer consumed some being the only who survived eating it gained two abilites the ability to fly and a bright red nose Santa Clause found him one day and had a vision of his value to the north pole so santa brought rudolf to his home and told the other reindeers to be mean to him so the sadness and anger will build up and allow his nose to become more bright and powerful........dats pretty much everything you wont see on a christmas special

I do not know the gentleman's name nor the year but he worked for Montgomery Ward and created Rudolph as an advertising coloring book if I am not mistaken.

I believe that he was originally going to name the Reindeer Rollo or something but decided to go with Rudolph.

I don't know all the history behind rudolph but western star and singer Gene Autry wrote the song. Check yahoo search for Gene Autry (you probably never heard of him) and you should get your answer.
