Wipe with a soft cloth. If it's a strand, absolutely do not get it wet. If it gets wet the silk bead cord will break down.
For pearl earrings, rings, etc., take it to a professional jeweler. Not a store that just sells jewelry (at the mall), but a place with the polisher, buffer, ultrasonic, and steamer. The jeweler will also check your mountings.
Pearls are very fragile. This is because the nacre (the pretty, pearly part) comes from an oyster, and is a soft, natural substance. They should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Do not sweat in them. Make-up is extremely damaging to them. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion are all big no-no's. The jewelry cleaner you can buy at the store will ruin them very quickly. A QUALIFIED jeweler should be the one to clean your pearls.
Another note: pearls need to be re-strung regularly. This means every 2-5 years depending on how you wear them. Your jeweler will let you know if they need to be done. Other pearls are usually affixed with expoxy (no prongs). This epoxy wears over time and needs to be redone on occasion, too. This is the equivalent of changing your oil or your tires on your car. Best of luck.

Caring for Your Pearls
Even cultured pearls with thicker coatings are more fragile than most other gemstones, so you must handle them carefully to keep them in the best condition
Your pearls will stay cleaner if you put them on after you've applied your makeup and perfume.
Be sure to take off your pearl rings before you apply hand and body creams.
Wipe your pearls with a soft, lint-free cloth as soon as you take them off.

The cloth can be dampened with water or it can be dry. If damp, allow the pearls to air dry before putting them away.
Dirty pearls can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution (try Ivory flakes).
Never clean your pearls with solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents.
Don't put pearl jewelry in an ultrasonic cleaner.
Don't use abrasive cleaners or rub pearls with abrasive cloth. Both can wear away the nacre coating, leaving you with a plain looking bead.

Pearls make beautiful engagement and wedding ceremony jewelry and necklaces. residing in Turkey, that's a custom for the groom to purchase 22K gold contraptions (necklace, earings and bracelets) for the potential bride. Being an American and previous trend in some techniques, i offered my spouse pearls. somewhat stunning and in basic terms as expensive as gold. i've got on no account heard something approximately pearls shrinking whilst they get moist... that's a universal. yet I surely have heard that makeup and fragrance might reason a pearl to be discoloured in the event that they arrive in touch too long. Like moisturizer, it fairly is the comparable effect. My spouse has a pearl ring, and as with every ring, that's superb to take it off and look after in basic terms before showering or the different interest which could harm or reason blemish. bypass forward and be risk-free, take the hoop off... the international won't bring about case you hold it risk-free.

Do Not Put The Pearls In Jewelery Cleaning Solution!!!!!! They could dissolve!! Use a mild soup and water if they must be cleaned and after they dry keep them moist with a tiny bit of mineral oil so they don't dry out and crack. Or wear them because your skin oil will keep them moist.

Wipe with a soft, clean cloth. That is all you need to do for them. But they should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Do not get perfume on them, and do take them to be restrung about every three years.
