It appears that our world rewards and pampers the moronic and adversely resists the smart. Even a brief review of TV or radio programming confirms to me that perhaps it is better to be stupid. Am I correct?

There's a fine line between genius and insanity and the line gets pretty blurred. Extreme IQ is like putting a V12 engine on a tricycle. Mentally, you can get there in a real hurry, but it's hard to keep it between the lines. There are times when steering your mind is just a matter of faith, or hanging on for the ride. With a brilliant mind, it's impossible to put the engine on idle and you get weary of standing on the brakes....

As for mass media, it panders to the masses, none of whom are at either of the extremes you list. The entertainment industry highlights those who entertain. By and large the masses find fools more entertaining than the wise. To paraphrase One wiser than me, "the blind follow the blind, and virtually all of them eventually end up in the gutter".

Wisdom may not make your life entertaining to others. It may not even make it eventful. It will not give you success as that term is measured by others, for you will measure differently. You will have serenity, not chaos. You will have few times of crisis, as most events will have been anticipated. There will be little lauded by others, as they will not understand your motives or your goals.

You may not have Anna Nicole's fame and fortune, but neither will you face such public reprehension. Nor will your children senselessly die at your feet, followed by the insensitive fighting over your body as it rots on a slab.

Stupidity better than wisdom? It depends upon how you measure success.

It's a conundrum. I really like using the word conundrum. I may even use it incorrectly sometimes, because it's such a fun word to use. So am I functionally insane, or ultra-wise using such an erudite word?

If you wanna be on TV or radio, then you are right. But there are other goals where smart it's an advantage.
