Everyone wears Mardi Gras beads around their neck!! People ride by on a float in the parades and throw them to you. (along with other trinkets such as fake coins called doubloons, frisbees, toys, stuffed animals, sexy underclothes, garters, footballs, spears, etc.) The black parade, Zulu, throws painted coconuts. St Patricks parades throw cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions etc for stew. You catch what they throw.
At Mardi Gras time, in New Orleans, when everyone is drunk (and just use poor judgement in general) people frequently flash or kiss to get the beads.
In the French Quarter, people rent apartments or rooms with balconies. They party on the balconies and watch the debauchery below. Elbow to elbow tourists and the local yocals who are out having a good time frequently flash the people on the balconies for beads.
Sometimes the partiers on the balconies do stripping also, and the people on the grounds throw beads at them. You have to be careful if someone is stripping on the balcony, because the elbow to elbow crowds that rush to that balcony can be crushing. You can get groped or pick-pocketed in the frenzy. Obviously, the guys give beads to women who are half naked. But, they also throw beads to you when you just yell at them to get their attention.
It is a lot of fun and worth a visit to check it out if you don't mind the sexuality and drunkeness. People have been known to have sex in the bars and streets at Mardi Gras time in the French Quarter. The closer you are to the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, the rowdier the crowds get. Cleaner parades can be visited in our local suburbs and are a lot of family fun with all day picnics, music, and laughter.

they're made in CHINA, from very much less costly plastic! basically one rider on a waft will spend extra on beads to throw in one parade, than the chinese language laborer making those beads makes in an entire 3 hundred and sixty 5 days! yet years in the past, some Mardi Gras beads was made out of glass, and are very uncommon now, and incredibly of collector's products via community New Orleanians.

thats how you get them at mardi gras, but you can really get them anywhere( the store) so you dont necessarily have 2 flsah them... i think thats only at a mardi gras party or celebration. (and dont they just throw them all over the place anyway)

NO CLUE... I guess some people are just fascinated with ugly crap hanging around their necks.... and as for the big gay festival of Mardi gras, flashing is just a part of their sick tradition.
*cough*hack*
I will stick to classier events !!
