Tonight I read a posting from someone who had received violations about saying how he felt about homosexuality. Is it wrong to voice and opinion, or should we keep quiet about how we feel. Or should we find another medium with which to say what we feel.
I HAVE MY OWN VIEWS AND DO NOT WANT TO BE DRAWN INTO A DEPATE ABOUT A PERSONS SEXUALITY. I'M TRYING TO ASCERTAIN WHETHER WE HAVE THE RIGHT ON HERE TO VOICE OUR VIEWS WITHOUT FEAR OF GETTING A VIOLATION FOR DOING SO.
So please no derogatory remarks aimed at me please. Thank you.
What do you think?

Doris Day...I was not talking about me and Yahoo guildelines I was talking about freedom of speech. However, yes you are right when we sign to Q&A we agree to terms and conditions. Sometimes abiding by the rules set down can be difficult as so many narrow minded people use this site to knock others down in flames by clicking the abuse button. The guidelines ought to be relaxed somewhat.

Do you know what some people ought to read a question before they answer it.
And no I'm not homophobic, but I am like thousands of other people totally sick of having some gays (the mindless few ) making a great big issue of being gay. So what I'm am someone who has recovered from a mental illness.....do I go round telling everyone. No we all should respect one another for what we are and go quietly about our business.
And for those who use this forum who are not signed up to yahoo but complain constantly ...just shut up your faces whinging all the time and go else where...Please!

Regarding rights: yahoo IS a private company providing a service for free. As such, there is no "freedom of speech". They get to make the rules, and if you don't like it, you can go elsewhere is the idea. That said, MY understanding of the rules is that:
First of all, something people need to realize: the fact that I'm gay is not a political statement. It is a PERSONAL statement. If you attack it "politically", it's actually a personal attack.
If you want to disagree with my politics, I'm pretty sure yahoo is ok with that IF you can do so without using slurs or making personal attacks. See above.
"I don't support gay marriage because..." is a lot different than "f--s gonna burn". Personally, I skip people who make the former statement without so much as a "because", and I report people who make the latter type statements, and then go on my merry way.

I think it's ok to voice your opinion if in doing so, you do not degrade or insult someone. It seems on here that anyone against it has to use derogatory terms and put down the people that don't agree with them. Reminds me of a forum I once read where if you weren't republican you were always called "ignorant" "inbred" or "moron." It's not a matter of do you have the "right" to do it, it's a matter of if you do it can you do it RESPECTFULLY. Seems the last couple of days that most people CANNOT do it respectfully, and that's where violations come in.
The thing everybody needs to remember in political and sexuality debates is that you have a right to your own opinion, but just because someone has an opnion that differs from yours does not mean you have to insult them or put them down or be overall rude to them, because they have as much a right to theirs as you do to yours.

Everyone has the right to an opinion, but there's a difference between that and being purposefully offensive.
I don't know what this person said, but I would assume that they have gone a bit further than saying they don't like homosexuality. Saying you don't like it isn't offensive. Saying things like gays are unnatural and should be hunted down is offensive, believe me I've had people (mostly christians) tell me stuff like that when they find out I'm gay.
If everyone just used their common sense there wouldn't be any need for questions like this. If your going to say something, just think ' would that hurt me if it were said about my faith/beliefs/sexuallity'. Do unto others and all that.

It's not what is said, if it's strictly opinion and civil -- keep in mind
the age of some of the folks who visit Yahoo (a good many sub-teeneers)
If nothing else, that SHOULD have some influence on language, inuendoes
and out-and-out nasty remarks. There is freedom of speech and the
right for the personal pursuit of happiness. So take your neutral corners, and come out fighting.

it depends if it was answered or asked within the guidelines. was it phrased in the form of a question or not. or was is phrased in the form of an answer or not. i have received violations at times when i felt i was correct. but i really didn't much care. there are boundaries for every thing in life. it helps to keep a balance. doesn't mean i agree with it all. but...it didn't take away my freedom here in the states, and it didn't change the price of milk for me either. that's what i think.

Voicing one's view is one thing. To say, "I am uncomfortable around gay people" is clear, for instance. However, to say, "Homosexuals are sick and perverted" is not clear. It is pointing a finger rather than expressing a view.
If a person is gay, then that person would have a right to talk about his own feelings about his/her homosexuality. But if someone is not gay, then I think talking about how 'wrong' being gay is would be not only disrespectful, it is an indefensible stance. How would anyone know, if one has not dealt with that oneself? (And leave the Bible out of the equation. Those who pull homophobic verses out of the Bible to support their discomfort/fear are more than happy to ignore any number of other verses that don't fit lots of other areas of their lives.)
Here, just as in group therapy, it is always best to use "I" statements.
"You" statements ("You queers are sick in the head") and "They" statements ("They are all sick in the head") are not clear statements, since one is not talking about one's own experience.

I feel like we all have the right to voice our opinions and our views on the subject at hand. But, it's our own responsibility to use disrcesion when handling something so personal. If you blantedly criticize and say someone else's views or sexual orentation is wrong and yours is the one and only truth then that does nothing to piss people off and cuase drama. So, short answer, yes.

What makes this country such a great place is the diversity of beliefs, cultures and religions. Without freedom of speech our country wouldn't be where it is today. I agree with you that we have the right to voice our opinions. Y'ans has it's own policies that we all must abide by as well if we wish to participate in this site. Regardless of sexual orientation the rules apply to all. Under their guidlines If I say something derogative to someone I risk being suspended. When I came to this site I agreed to their terms just as you. If you disagree with their terms please challenge them and try to make a change. Please don't take it personal we all have to follow their guidlines. : )

i think you should have an opinion, like yes i agree with some thing or no i don't, there is no need to go into reasons why you agree or disagree because there your personal reasons or beliefs which could be there through hatred or been hurt or just ignorance or what you've been brought up to believe, so i think yes we should keep quiet about how we feel but still voice a simple opinion

We all have opinions on both subjects ,but we work with gay people
&political commentaters ,they must have views on us also ,so I dont see any friction there ,these people are our society no matter how you view them ,other mediums wont change the rules ,no one should be given a violation for free speech.
