Why do we look down on countries that do? Is is the typical American egocentricity?
We eat cows, chickens, pigs, etc...
My boy (who is Vietnamese) is over there right now and he had a dog meal... I don't have a problem with it.
Do you?

Look at the great LOUIS L bestowing his judgement from on high!
Hey stupid, did it it say I wanted to have a dog for dinner? No. Just a question... calm down and ask your mom for a glass of milk.
"Seeing eye chickens"?!? Thats the best you could come up with? Cmon man!

You have already made a good point. We as Americans do not always look at the other culture's perspective. Someone mentioned domesticated animals. Well, the chicken you eat at KFC or the burger you had at McDonald's came from a farm. That makes them domesticated. It only becomes a problem when you name the animal and start to care for it as an individual being. Who wants to eat Scruffy? I think if we dropped this notion of it being "wrong" to eat cats and dogs simply because they are the standard pets than there would be less starving people. I would not eat cats or dogs simply because I do not think it would appeal to me and I do not eat every type of meat. Personally, I think eating frog legs is disgusting. That does not make it wrong.
Also, they lick their genitals.

I have a HUGE problem with it. That, and a few other personal reasons is why I quit eating meat. Why is it okay to eat cows, pigs and chickens (animals that don't clean themselves and live happily in their own filth) but look down on those that eat cats and dogs (animals that are constantly cleaning themselves and are cleaner than humans). I love all animals, am sick and tired of death and don't want to eat anything that was killed.

There are no seeing eye chickens. Cats and dogs live in the homes of humans. If you want to eat them go ahead and prove that you should be eaten alive yourself since you are not as evolved as having enough intelligence to know the answer.

guess that covers a lot of things -- what the hay, "if it tastes good,
eat it"-- dog, cat, monkey snakes, what's the difference (don't think it'll hurt you)personally will stick to the chow I'm more familiar with.

I think it's the way we are brought up here, but my vegan cousin says it's the same as eating a goat, or cow...you're still killing an animal and eating it. To me that made sense.

I do have a problem with it, they are pets
It's just our life style in western cultures..............other cultures don't understand how we can eat cow's or pig's
I would never be able to eat anything if it was a pet of mine
