Nope, you're not crazy. I live in MN and we are getting hammered with snow today! In fact there has been some thundersnow in a few areas. typically Thundersnow drops more snow in that particular area.

"Thundersnow is a particularly rare meteorological phenomenon that includes the typical behavior of a thunderstorm, but with snow falling as the primary precipitation instead of rain. It commonly falls in regions of strong upward motion within the cold sector of extratropical cyclones between autumn and spring when surface temperatures are most likely to be near or below freezing. Variations exist, such as thundersleet, where the precipitation consists of sleet rather than snow."

When the air up in the atmosphere heats up rapidly, it will cause it to expand and contrast. This expanding and contrasting is what gives you the sound of thunder. Even during snow, if there is rapid heating somewhere up in the atmosphere, it is likely you will hear some thunder.

You probably did, and it doesn't seem too surprising if you're in MN/WI/IA this blustery, snowy week. These big snow events of late have been a lot of fun to experience!!! And then the snow plow buries the end of the driveway. :oP

It happens and with the air cold and more dense it is especially loud. The first time I heard it we lived near a military base and thought that something had blown up .
