Why do they oppose domestic drilling to increase our own supply?

Well domestic drilling will not lower our gas prices. This is just a lie spread by the right to demonize the left. Sad that it works.
I personally as a liberal though have to say I am not horrified by last summers high gas prices.

everyone was horrified... especially businesses, that are often conservative... it was blowing people's profit margins to hades on transportation costs... no one figures in that much of a swing
liberals were also upset to some degree... but, just because I'm upset, it doesn't mean that I want to put a huge oil rigs in the gulf coast either or in a nature preserve...
no one wants it in their back yard... and Republicans in Republican districts in the gulf coast don't want it either...
but I think liberals want to work on getting away from oil... instead of just coming up with more... basically ENDING the problem forever, instead of just delaying it until we're low on oil again...

Because some of us feel there are better alternatives. We won't be able to be dependent on oil forever. We might as well start working on switching to ethanol now. Brazil started doing that a decade ago, and now almost half their fuel use is ethanol. That should have been us, too.

Good point. I love how the libs try to demonize "evil" oil companies ripping-off Average Joe American, but I noticed they didn't do one thing about removing Federally imposed gas taxes.

because drilling, like in alaska, will damage natural habitats.
its not worth hurting the earth and killing animals so lazy people can waste oil. work on cleaner, safer forms of fuel

Mother Earth is tired of us. Let's get off of oil. We could all do much better if we would accept the fact that we HAVE to.

i was horrified at exxons profits . if we all conserved just a little we would not have to drill more or import more .
