that depends, but probably not.
i didn't take prenatal vitamins during my pregnancy and i had a 9lb 110z HEALTHY baby. and what did people do before them?
if you're not already healthy and your diet leaves something to be desired nutritionally speaking, take the vitamins. if you can't handle the prenatals try children's chewables like flintstones vitamins.
otherwise you can get all the vitamins you need from your diet. just keep an eye on what you eat and make sure you're getting enough nutrition! :)

No, I didn't take them and had a healthy baby. Basically, the baby will just suck all the nutrition it needs out of you.So might need extra vitamins replace what the baby took, but as long as you are feeling ok, you don't have to take anything. Just try to eat healthy. And to the person that said that people did without for millenia, but the percentage of babies born with these defects was enormously higher - that is not because they didn't take vitamins, but because now thanks to all the prenatal tests and ultrasound exams, women find out they are carrying a defective baby and most of them get abortion because they don't want to deal with it. It has been proven by many tests, that if you not living in third world country (starving) the vitamins don't make any difference. Folic acid is important, indeed, but you have to take it BEFORE you get pregnant to prevent neural tube defects.

It can...pregnancy leeches all your nutrients.
The reason you take prenatals is so that you can replenish your body everyday and to make sure that your baby gets everything it needs.
Why would you not take them?
I have a friend who thought she didn't need them, so she didn't take the prescription ones from the doctor...then she felt guilty cause she was just being cheap so she when to the healthfood store and bought some random ones there...she had her baby prematurly.
I don't want to scare you, but if you aren't getting the right nutrition and taking really good care of yourself...stuff can happen. Just be healthy, eat right, drink tons of water and take your vitamins

If you have a diet that is full of all the extra vitamins and minerals you need while pregnant, you'll probably be fine. But why wouldn't you want to take prenatal vitamins? That's kind of selfish.

in the beginning, the human beings criticising you right here could desire to chill out down or pass away. you're right here when you consider which you're inquiring for suggestion and are patently worrying you have harmed your toddler. this is not any longer likely it could have performed something to the toddler if it became into in simple terms as quickly as, even yet it may desire to in all hazard make you miscarry. (additionally no longer likely as quickly as) notwithstanding you do, do no longer do from now on. As you're drugging your toddler. it is living off of you, so each and every thing you consume/drink/sniff, your toddler is in simple terms too. the perfect ingredient is to no longer rigidity your self. you are able to no longer replace what befell so in simple terms make the better of your being pregnant and don't trouble with regard to the previous. Make a great destiny :) you would be nice :) stable success!

No, I didnt take prenates for a while because they always made me sick.
Although by taking them you are doing better for the baby.
As long as you eat a variety of healthy foods and greenveggies, you should be fine.

prenatal vitamins have extra folic acid, which helps prevent neural tube defects in babies. This is a serious concern, if you have a problem with taking them, talk to your doctor, if it is a cost issue, again talk to your doc., it is considered very important so they will probably give you free samples to get you through.
ps - yes, people did without for millenia, and the percentage of babies born with these defects was enormously higher.

Well the lack of folic acid can harm your babies brain development. As well the your body will give the other vitamins to the baby thus depriving your body, many woman end up calcium deprived & end up with problems with their teeth & bones. Also anemia.
