I want to save up to get an ipod but with all these 4GB and 2GB stuff i dont know which one would be good enough for my musical collection and enough to add some more. So please Help!

Technically, due to how binary coding works, 1 GB is 1024 MB, etc. But forget that for a second and let's keep things simple.

For all intents and purposes, they're basically what the kilo-/mega-/giga- metric measures make them sound like. 1KB is essentially 1000 bytes, 1MB is essentially 1000KB, and 1GB is essentially 1000MB. Your average 4 minute mp3 file is probably 5-6 MB (a bit more than 1MB per minute). So for example, say you have a 5GB worth of space on an mp3 player - you can fit about 1,000 4 minute songs on there, or 20GB of space could fit 4,000 of them, etc.

The place that gets tricky is with the size of the mp3 player hard drives. In general, companies round up the size of their hard drives, and an iPod would use some of the space from the drive for the operating system software that plays the mp3s in the first place. As an example: I've got a 15GB iPod, but I can only actually use 13.8GB of that space. Expect that to be similar on most mp3 players.

If you've got your music collection on your computer already, knowing how much space you would need in an mp3 player should be easy - just find the folder that contains your music, go to properties, and see how large it is.

Kbs or kilobytes are the smallest amount of common storage, and com in at a thousand bytes for each kilobyte. A megabyte is a million bytes of data nad a gigabyte is a billion. The more gigabytes a mp3 player is the better.
