Yes- replace the battery first; it is likely the cells are grounded internally if the battery was discharged and then frozen. Have the shop put a load test on it to be sure.
That done, get some spray starter fluid (naptha) or carb cleaner (same thing) and sqirt it directly into carb throat as someone hits the starter. That will get the engine to fire, altho you may have to keep priming it until the fuel pump can supply fuel. Sure beats grinding away hoping something will happen.

You still can not jump a dead battery. Double check all the battery connections and grounds 1st. if it doeant help, then remove the battery. If your car sat for the past winter, and it has been very cold where you live. Then it is possible that the battery is frozen. DO NOT JUMP START A FROZEN BATTERY!!!! IT WILL EXPLODE!!!.
You can try to defrost it and recharge it, but your best bet is to find the reciept and return it. You will still get credit for a partial battery, which is better than paying full price for another battery.

you need a new battery and check your battery cabels for corrosion to get that off pour a can of pepsi on them and it will break them up and make sure the cables are conected good and not loose
