One one hand turning things on and off ( frequently )
makes them wear slightly more. Example? A light
bulb is more likely to blow because of the contraction
and expansion that happens every time you hit the switch.
On the other hand, if you take into account the waste of resources, electricity burned, heat lost etc etc, it's more economical, kinder to the environment, and
good for your general well being, to switch everything
off completely.
The middle ground, is something called power save
mode. The computer puts itself into idle, and turns
most parts of the system off. Electricity is still being
burned though!
As to how to make a computer faster ...? Other than
buying a new and updated model, this is a whole new
question in itself. One for another time.

There is nothing wrong with turning your computer on and off all the time. Inless your are constantly doing it over and over in a short period of time. If you do think that is happening leave your computer on in it's standby function ( it will give you the option for standby when you turn it off depending on what operating system you are using).
To speed up your computer try downloading '' AdAware SE'' this program scans your computer for Adware and Spyware and removes it form your computer. These are files that build up easily and can dramatically slow down your computer if there is a lot of it. Don't be surprised if the first time you scan you get a large number.

No!
It is better to give your computer a rest as often as you can.
Sleep mode can be faster for getting on/off it though.
If you want to make your computer faster you could try a virus scan. The virus scan will take off unnecessary cookies put on by stupid websites.
Another thing you can do is buy computer memory and/or buying ram for your computer.
Ive added alot of RAM to my computer and it goes much faster now, and a quick virus scan always makes my computer a bit faster.
Good Luck!

I personally prefer to keep my computer on all the time. My reason for this is because of my HHD. Everytime you turn your computer on and off you stress it more than say you keep it on all the time. Every time you start up your computer the hard drive has to go from a still position to going really fast. That takes alot of effort for the hard drive to do that.
The decision is really a personal one.
Below is a good site that argues both sides...then you can decide for yourself.

Turning a abode windows equipment "OFF" (from 'start up> turn Off computing device...' button) isn't the wonderful thank you to place your equipment away for the evening (or prolonged classes) and forcing a shutdown with the potential button is on no account an outstanding selection; purely a final motel. It prevents abode windows from 'abode initiatives' equipment information to get waiting for the subsequent start up-up, and might, via the years, reason document corruption; decelerate; even wreck abode windows. A vastly superior approach is 'Hibernation'. Shutdowns making use of the 'hibernate' approach supplies a number of advantages: that's a exact to 0 potential state; all 'Startup' folder products are already loaded, abode windows history amenities are already 'up', and all open artwork strikes to the troublesome tension, yielding fairly speedy start up-ups. And if potential is misplaced (storms, etc.) the checklist or photograph you have been engaged on will on no account be misplaced like it would be in 'Standby' mode, and the equipment will resume in basic terms the place you left it. bypass to start up> administration Panel> potential techniques> Hibernate: here examine the field. to tutor this selection whilst turning unit off; start up> turn Off computing device> carry down 'Shift' key & 'Standby' will become "Hibernate': tick that. (some structures have a 'crescent moon' key to bypass good to hibernate). be conscious: emergency potential loss can take place with none influence on the equipment, yet unfiltered potential spikes will (as in any configuration) probably reason harm to the equipment. to start, push the potential button, and abode windows will resume good the place you left it, bada bing.

I turn mine off every day. Saves energy. Mine are laptops. Keeps them from overheating. A friend of mine, an (ex-) high-falootin' engineer from Los Alamos, sez it's good for the lithium-ion batteries to get "exercised" anyway, instead of being plugged in all the time, so we unplug the laptops and let the batteries run down, then plug'em back in for awhile.

ok ... here is the skinny on it ... they both have their hazards
If you leave it on you stand a chance of the hard drive failing if you do have to shut it down. sometimes they don't come back up when they have been running for extended periods of time. The computer itself doesn't matter so much ... it is solid state.
If you turn it off you stand a chance of popping parts when you turn it on ... have you ever noticed that a light bulb blows when you turn it on? It is because the sudden surge of electicity can sometimes pop solid state equiptment.
personally i leave mine running all the time.

this argument is going to go on for ever , but here is my 2 cents for what ever it may be worth , i turn my pc's off everynite for several reasons #1 save electric #2 even if the cpu is running at normal specs it is good to let it cool all the way down , ask your self this , in the middle of winter , do you let your car run all nite , just so it's warm when you get in it , or do you go out and start it right before your ready to use it

I turn mine off every night before I go to sleep. Never had a problem. It will run faster if you add more RAM (memory).

It depends on your rate of usage...I have read some where (and I,m not sure where) that you should never leave your computer on or in stand-by state as it may be left open to phishing or other abuse...
