Simplifying
2x + 16 = 3x + -4(x + 2)

Reorder the terms:
16 + 2x = 3x + -4(x + 2)

Reorder the terms:
16 + 2x = 3x + -4(2 + x)
16 + 2x = 3x + (2 * -4 + x * -4)
16 + 2x = 3x + (-8 + -4x)

Reorder the terms:
16 + 2x = -8 + 3x + -4x

Combine like terms: 3x + -4x = -1x
16 + 2x = -8 + -1x

Solving
16 + 2x = -8 + -1x

Solving for variable 'x'.

Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add 'x' to each side of the equation.
16 + 2x + x = -8 + -1x + x

Combine like terms: 2x + x = 3x
16 + 3x = -8 + -1x + x

Combine like terms: -1x + x = 0
16 + 3x = -8 + 0
16 + 3x = -8

Add '-16' to each side of the equation.
16 + -16 + 3x = -8 + -16

Combine like terms: 16 + -16 = 0
0 + 3x = -8 + -16
3x = -8 + -16

Combine like terms: -8 + -16 = -24
3x = -24

Divide each side by '3'.
x = -8

Simplifying
x = -8

1. Distibute: 2x+16=3x-4x-8
2. Simplify: 2x+16=-x-8
3. Put like terms together, add -x to left side: 3x+16=-8
4. Subtract 16 from left side and put it on the right: 3x=-24
5. Divide -24 by 3: x=-8
6. There you go and don't forget to check it! x=-8

multiply the 4 into the parentheses on the right side. So you get:
2x+16=3x - 4x -8
subtract the 3x and 4x on the right side to get:
2x +16 = -x -8
Add x to both sides to get:
3x + 16 = -8
Subtract 16 from both sides to get x by itself on the left:
3x = -24
Divide both sides by 3:
x = -8
There ya go

2x + 16 = 3x - 4(x+2)
2x + 16 = 3x - 4x - 8
2x - 3x +4x = -8 - 16
3 x = -24
x = -8

2x +16 = (3x - 4)(x + 2)
2x + 16 = 3x to the power of 2 + 6x - 4x - 8
2x - 3x to the power of 2 - 6x + 4x = - 8 - 16
-3x to the power of 2 = -24
x to the power of 2 = -24/-3
square root of x = square root of 8
x = 2.828

ok.. first lets simplify it by multiplying the second half to get

2x+16= 3x - 4x -8
2x+16 = -x -8 we moved everything over and combined.

2x = -x -24

3x= -24

x= -8
