I am in the minority in the U.S. I think the death penalty is premeditated murder. It is not a deterrent and is not justice, but revenge. I've yet to meet a family who felt better after the defendant was executed. It did not bring back their loved one and just put more killing in the universe.

I'm pro death penalty.
In cases where evidence is clear and there is no doubt about who committed the crime, it should be executed swiftly without any appeals.
Someone said that once the criminal is off the street the threat has been eliminated. That's baloney. Nobody can make sure that a criminal will never escape out of jail (criminals have escaped from maximum security jails before). and there is always the possibility of them being pardoned by other criminals who make it in some high governmental position.
The death penalty IS a deterent. it keeps that one person from ever committing a sick crime like that again.
To Sable: The Bible does not say "Thou shall not kill"... correctly translated it says "Thou shall not murder"... murder meaning killing someone innocent. A murderer is not innocent. I would hope that if you were given a chance in WW2 to kill Hitler, you would not think twice about doing what is right. Letting him live would kinda make you (at least partially) responsible for millions of innocent peoples deaths. So your pacifist mentality needs to mature.

Just remember you America's when fry some one in the electric chair you realise there energy down the power socket and i know people that do not dare switch a light on (only myth). No i dont believe in the death penalty as hard labour and making these criminal s work in a prison for the community making free products for victims or the poor can be more productive and a life n prisonment is harder to do than knowing that you do a crime then your killed and set free of torment of a jail cell?

I am all about the death penalty but just for the criminals that did it without a doubt. And it should be done right after the sentencing not 30 years of sitting around getting fat off of my tax dollars. I am a soldier and see men die and fight for american's rights. My friends did not die for these rapist to get out on good behavior just to go do it all over again.

Pro death penalty.
I don't view it as vengeance (since I have not personally been touched with a tragedy), but I do view it as taking a sick/defective individual out of circulation for the protection of society.
What really pisses me off is when they let a bunch of scumbags out of prison because of over population. I say eliminate a bunch of the violent repeaters instead of releasing more trash back into society.
It's the same reason why sick or dangerous dogs are euthanized. I feel sorry for any sick animal put out of its misery, but it must be done for the protection of others.

I am in favor of it. But, death row appeals should move to the head of the pack and be finished inside of 6 months.
If the lethal injection system bothers them, then a good strong piece of manila rope will do just fine. These people committed heinous crimes and should pay for them.
If they want to give their heart and soul to God, that is fine. Give them an opportunity to get their affairs in order and send them on their way.

I think that if they are beyond rehabilitation, and will never be a productive member of soceity (in or out of prison), then they should be put to death. A person that is violent, and is never going to be able to safely walk the streets don't deserve to have a right they denied another human being.

Some people might deserve it but some do not. I guess if I were a god I could figure out who is who. If the death penalty should be enforced then god should get it first.

Pro death penalty, but not pro: let them sit around in the system for 30 years on appeal.

I am totally for it. But hand- in- hand there should be a limit on appeals and time pending those appeals. I don't think someone should be on death row for 30 years, while I pay for all of their medical, dental, etc.
