It's not the father's body. Would you say that a rapist would have the right to determine whether his victim has an abortion?

Here is what I think about abortion. Imagine you have a child. If I asked you to put a gun to the childs head and pull the trigger would you do it? Right now some of you are saying "That's a totally different situation." Very well, and I would agree with you, now answer the question.
Unless you have some mental illness your answer is undoubtably "no." Now Imagine if you saw some person holding a gun to a childs head. Would you stop them from pulling the triiger? Again some might say the situation I descibe and abortion have nothing to do with each other. What if you are unable to stop this person from pulling the trigger? what do you think sould happen to the person with the gun? Should this person be prosecuted for murder? Set aside, for the moment weather or not you think this situation has anything to do with abortion and just answer the question.
Once again, unless you have a mental illness, you are no doubt calling for this persons arrest. At this point I would like you to reread what I've written to see if you can find where it is written that the gun is loaded. If you read carfully you will see no such thing written, niether is it written that the gun is unloaded.
This is the best way I can explain my beliefs regarding abortion. A person, putting a gun to a childs head, and pulling the trigger. Now, whether or not that gun is loaded, I honestly cannot prove. I believe the gun is loaded, just as you assumed ealier, but I cannot scientifically prove it, but this does not stop me from trying to take the gun from this persons hand. i would hope you would do the same.

I am a Dem and do favor pro choice, and your question is a good question. I myself would not have an abortion because it is inconvenient for me. I do belive in the saying ...you made your bed..so sleep in it. But I do not feel I or a government should tell a person what she should do with HER body. Now I do feel that if the father of the child wants the child...this is where I feel the laws needs to come in and that is on the father's side. But if there is no father saying I want that child and the mother does not want the child, then I feel it's her choice and she will have to deal with her conscious and live with her choice. I am happy I made the choice to have my beautiful son who is now 34 years old and some day I hope to be a grandmother but it is my son's choice.

Yes that is frustrating. Men have a right and responsibility. Once a child is conceived the decision(s) have already been made. The mother AND father both have to grow-up and take responsibility for their actions.
John Doe's scenario is pointless. In his scenario only the woman has a right to make a choice because she did not have a choice previously. To suggest otherwise is ludicrous and not the question being asked at all. In all other cases both the man and woman have rights and responsibilities.

Yes, I get angry when people go to talking about a woman's choice. There are some very large responsibilities when it comes to sex. Life is transmitted by sex. Certainly, the woman should have more of the say so in regard to the baby, after all, she is the one carrying it. I can't believe that men have been able to convince women to have abortions because THEY don't want to be responsible. But it is hard to imagine women wanting that.
It has been statistically proven that early sex harms young girls. It has also been proven that abortions harm the woman. Most of that is mental, but our mind is what separates us from animals, so mental or psychological harm is very real and very bad.
Unfortunately, most men would be quite happy for the woman to get an abortion, preferably without telling him. But when two people join her egg and his sperm, they should be prepared to raise a family and do their very best to provide for the resulting child.

i agree. with the exception of rape or sever medical risk to the mother (which does not account for most abortions, no matter how often you hear the argument.) the child was created by a choice made by two people. either the father should have the right to keep the child himself, or he should be given the right to not pay child support if she keeps it. men are expected to take responsibility for whatever choice the woman makes with no input.

I think that the father has every right to a say in the matter. And I think it should be encouraged. But facts are facts; the man doesn't carry the child for 40 weeks. No one can force the man to carry a pregnancy that he doesn't want, and he can walk away at any time.
It is the woman's body, and I think her rights supercede the rights of the man at that point of which direction to go in.
Sorry.

You are absolutely right. The father does have rights. However, the "choice" was made the second they crawled in the sack together. The child's right to be born and have a life supercedes anyones right to take a life.

I agree, the father should have the same rights as the mother, if he wants it and she doesn't she should have to carry it, just like if she wants it and he doesn't he still has to pay child support...
They each had an equal part in creating the baby, after all.

yes, i agree, i think that it should be both parents' choice on what happens. i guess it varies from one situation to another, but, yes, it should be both parents' decisions. altho, thinking more about this, i was raped and i did get pregnant. i was going to keep the baby but nature decided that i shouldn't have it and i had a miscarriage. had i made it to full term and had the baby, i would have kept it because it would have been an innocent result of hate given to me.
