Okay - those may be your main reasons but why this particular university as opposed to another as your safety school?

Does the school have a better program for your major better? Are the class sizes smaller? Do you think it has a good regional, network of alumni? Do you know someone who attended and recommended it to you? Do you like the atmosphere - political, social, academic? Can you see yourself fitting in and excelling/contributing?

Look at school rankings & university/college reviews to see if you can get more information about the place.

Even if it's your back-up school, you have to have a reason why it's your back-up school, rather than not being on your list at all. After all, second choice is better than last.

For example, its program of study in the area you're interested in is good, or it has great professors. Or, it offers classes that you wouldn't be able to get at your third choice school. Maybe you have a relative who attended (schools generally like to hear something like that.)

Since this is your second choice school, obviously the answers to the above questions more likely apply to your first choice school, but the admissions board doesn't ever have to know that. For the purposes of the essay, assume that there's a very real chance you could end up at the school (fingers crossed you don't, but this is about making sure you do in fact have a back-up). Do you like the campus? Do you like the dorms? Did you meet anyone on the tours (students, faculty, staff) that made a really great impression on you?

Above all, be as honest as you can, especially with yourself. If you really can't come up with any answers as to why you would want to go there if choice #1 doesn't pan out, you may need to rethink your back-up school.
