there is no need to get crazy with boot break-in stuff. I wear mine for about 30 minutes or so to make sure there is nothing really uncomfortable with them. Keep in mind at first they will be a bit stiff in the heel and toes so he may not like them at first. Then just have him go ride in them. Some boots fit better with thick socks, some with thin socks. The whole soak them in water and put conditioner on them is useless. The purpose is to ride in them, the more riding the more comfortable the boots will be.

I don't know about fast. but when I get new boots I usually soak them down with boot oil and try to wear them for an hour or so each day until they soften up.keep putting the oil on them too.I don't know about soaking them in water, but the boot oil definetly works well.

Have him put on pair of socks, get in the shower and run hot/warm water on the boots for 5-10 minutes, then take them off. drain out the water out, check the insides to see how wet they are. Put on two pair of dry socks, and walk out side for 1-2 hours, then remove them, stuff them inside with newspaper, to dry them and keep their shape.
Put Blick 4 Leather conditioner on them the next day and everytime he wears them, this will improve the life of them.

some boots never fully break in.
If you have the latest high tech boots they probably have plastic sides so any amount of water/oil/etc isnt going to have any effect

sure soaking them in water will help break them in fast, but the boot will also wear out twice as fast, just put them on, walk around in them all day, or just go riding in them. the more you ride in them, the faster they will break in.....

Wear them around the house, around the yard, wherever he can wear them without losing the protection they provide.
