first; open the window-get rid of any carpeting, microscopic bugs and mites live in carpeting, then wash woodwork and things with a blend of bleach and water or something strong,, spray Ozione, [i think that's how its spelled] and give the walls a fresh coat of paint. new curtains would be nice, that should do it,

Air your house out everytime you get the chance, that is opening the windows and doors and letting the breeze run through. Bathe you pet often. You can also buy sprays that take away pet smells. Wash the pets bedding often too.
I have a golden retriever who is inside much of the time. Our house does not smell (or does it and I am used to it?????) However, noone ever comments that it smells.

Use Nature's Miracle. You can get it at PetSmart. It works on anything and literally takes the smell out of your house. Follow directions exactly and you won't know you have animals. You can use it in a steam cleaner if you decide to clean your carpeting. You can also follow up with Lysol spray or Oust, or any of your favorite air freshener.
