I would like to know if I should shut down my computer or let it go to "hibernate" or "stand by" and if so, how many minutes should I set the timers on? Thank you.

I think that putting your computer on Hibernate is better than putting it on standby. You should shut down your computer before you go to sleep at night, to let your computer rest and cool off. It also saves energy. When you Hibernate a computer, it is sleeping. When you put it in Standby, the computer expects you to bring it back in 20 minutes or less. If you want it to Hibernate automatically, I would say set the timer for at least 20 minutes. It depends how much you use your computer, though. If you don't use your computer to often, it can be about 15 minutes. If you use it a lot, like 40 minutes before getting off your computer, I would say set it for 50 minutes. You don't need to time it if you don't really want to. You can go to Start, then Shut Down, then do it every time you want.

I have a laptop and what I tend do do is let it stand by after 40 minutes of inactivity and to hibernate after an hour and a half. I only switch it off if I'm taking it out.
