hello. I am writing a "then and now" paper. and i would appreciate it if you guys could give any words of wisdom about history. How do you think today would be thought of in the future? What if our interpretation of history did not change? just give me any pointers about this history thing.

VERY much appreciated!!!!

Someone once said that 'History is written by the Victors'. But as time wears away at those rough edges of the writing people often begin to see other views too.

A good example are the two recent movies by Clint Eastwood which show BOTH sides of the war during the battle for Iwo Jima (Island). 50 years ago such a matched set of stories would have likely had Mr. Eastwood banned from most theaters in the 'free' world. Today, it serves to remind people of another side to that conflict.

In the future I think the same thing will happen (assuming the planet survives) , I hope that the US actions in the middle east will be viewed with a little less contempt and will be seen more as the actions of a poor president then as the methods of an entire nation... who knows what the 'victors' will write ?

Our understanding of history as we know it today is based on an interpretation of past events, that's not to say that new discoveries might alter what we were taught in school.
Technology has a lot to do with that because as we use new tools to help us figure out how things happened it opens new doors and leads to new discoveries.
