I need help talking songs off the computer but not the iPod.?

the library of songs and video is taking over my hard drive. How can I get them off the computer without erasing the iPod?

You can buy an external hard drive and put all your songs to it. The problem is that everytime you want to open itunes and sync your iPod, you have to plug in the external hard drive. Plus sometimes only the song title and the artist shows up on itunes, but not the genre or anything else.
