Sarie,
You sound like a sensitive person, and that's not a bad thing. I know the feeling. The only way it could be bad is that you end up feeling hurt a lot. Now, about your teacher...
As Chantel said (and strangely, two people gave her answer a thumbs down), someone should speak to your teacher, whether it's you or your parents or some other caring adult who knows the situation. If she is really mean to you, she may have something personal against you, or she may be mean to lots of people. She may have things going on in her life that are causing her stress, but that's no excuse to take it out on you. Has she always been this way, or did it start recently? Is it only with you?
I think you need to know that it's your right to be talked to with respect. You have a right to be upset if *anyone* is yelling at you, especially a teacher. I had a chemistry teacher like that, and I agree it was scary! Your parents or the principal (or both) need to know about this, because you can't learn when you are scared and upset. Trust me, someone will *want* to know about a student who is trying but is hindered by their own teacher! I don't know if you have a good school counselor, but that's another good possibility.
You also have a right to your feelings, honey -- no matter what the other girl said about getting over it. It's possible you're making too big a deal about this. But you still have a right to feel what you feel! And you still need a solution. It's also possible that your teacher doesn't even realize how scared or hurt you feel. That's why someone needs to speak up. Don't be ashamed to cry. Don't fake it, of course, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's natural, and it may even be what it takes to make the light bulb go on in your teacher's head, so she realizes how bad you feel.
Is she really yelling, or is it just that you're not used to criticism? (You mentioned you're an only child, but I don't know whether that helps or hurts the situation). Did she have a legitimate complaint, that time you didn't have your paper? Did she pick on just you, and did you do your homework or whatever was asked? These are the questions a good counselor, principal, or parent would want answered. By the way, I didn't get the part about the parade.
When you asked about doing the cow communication topic for a science project, I'm assuming you were being sincere and not trying to be funny or sarcastic -- though she may have taken it that way. It is also wrong for her to tell other students what happened, which probably embarrassed you. Any *sincere* question, especially in a SCHOOL is perfectly ok, and (without knowing anything about your class or the science project rules) it sounds like a perfectly reasonable question, to me.
Yes, there are a lot of mean people in the world. But she may not be as mean as you think. I hope not. See what happens when you or someone have a sincere talk with her about your feelings.
Oh, and please try not to let this affect your feelings about science -- or your education on the subject. The world needs good scientists, or even scientifically-aware people! Badly.
Good luck.

Write your teacher a letter. Start out with Dear Ms.-------(what ever her name is) put it in an envelope with her name on it and hand it to her.
Say that you would like to learn about science in her class. Tell her that you did not want to make her angry with you about your idea for a science project. Tell her you thought it would be a good idea, but if she does not agree, could you please talk to her after class about some other ideas. As a teacher, she will probably respond in a nice way to you.
Just another thought:
Perhaps you could consider a project about water. How water changes from liquid, to vapor (steam), or solid (ice), depending on the influence of the temperature.
The orderliness in water can be seen when the temperature is lowered. We see this in a snowflake. A design can be seen. It can be said that the potential orderliness in a drop of water can be seen in a snowflake.
Another thing that you can do is to take some water and add salt to it. Put it in the freezer. The salt will seperate from the ice as the water freezes. This happens because the molecular structure of salt does not allow it to settle down enough to become orderly. Therefore, the salt is seperated from the water. In science, it is called a field effect. You can get more information at the library or on the internet. (Go to ask.com and ask a question.)
There is another experiment that you can try on your own. Smile to your busdriver when you get on the bus. Say, "Hi, Mr. or Ms.-----. (Everyone likes to hear their name)
In science, there is a law that says, "every action has a reaction". If you are pleasant, you may find that he or she may be pleasant in return. It's all about attitude. If you can learn that at your age, then your whole life can become happier.
I had to add this on, just to show you that your question about cows is not unusual. It's just not what your teacher had in mind. Animals make sounds because their physiology is not as developed as the physiology of a human.
In this study, it refers to speech or what is called "linguistics". Not so much why a cow moos, but why it sounds different in different languages. There was a study done at Georgetown University on the sounds that animals make in different languages.
http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ballc/animals/animals
It says:
"The sound of animals site could just as appropriately have been placed in the foreign language category but the focus is really on animals rather than languages."
Spelling the sounds of the world's animals:
Why do cows go 'muuu' in Spanish, but 'moo' in English? Why do French cows say 'meuh'? Part of the answer is that each language has a different system of sounds. The human mouth can make many sounds, but each language uses only some of them. French does have a sound like 'oo', but it's a short sound. It would be spelled 'mou' in French. To a French speaker, 'meuh' sounds more like the sound of a cow.
Languages have different sounds, and they also have different ways of spelling their sounds. Tiny babies quickly learn the sounds of their language, but it takes a long time to learn how to write and how to spell. Especially in English!
Learning to write means learning how sounds are related to symbols in your language. If you think about it, this is a strange thing to do. You take something that uses your mouth and your ears, and you turn it into something that uses your hands and your eyes. If you're reading this page, you already know how to do that. Congratulations! But do you remember how hard it was?
English seems especially hard. We have many ways of spelling the same sound, and many ways of pronouncing the same letters. It's partly because our alphabet was designed for a different language: Latin. Latin didn't have all the sounds we have in English. When the monks in the Middle Ages were deciding how to write English using the Latin alphabet, they had to find some clever ways to use Latin letters for English sounds. Sometimes they used two letters for one sound, like 'th'. Sometimes they used letters from the original English alphabet, called runes.
Another part of the story is that English sounds have changed a lot since the Middle Ages, but English spelling hasn't always changed with the times. For example, 'mouse' used to be pronounced the same way as 'moose'. And 'mice' used to be pronounced 'meese' in Middle English. But our vowels have been moving around since then. In fact, they are still moving! If your parents are over 25 and you are under 25, you probably have different vowels. If everyone spelled the way they speak, reading English would be much harder.
Since printing was invented, our spelling hasn't changed very much. That means that each English word is like a time capsule: it has little bits of history inside it. When you learn English spelling, you can also learn something about the history of the English language.
