Car idles rough. white smoke coming from throttle body sometimes. Smells strange under hood when temperature gauge red lines. Have to continully stop to put water in vehicle. Have used liquid glass product. Problem returned. Thinking about using k& w block sealant. Worth a try?

White smoke from the exhaust indicates a blown head gasket. Water is being sucked from the coolant system into the cylinder as the piston in the cylinder creates a vacuum on the downstroke.Water boiling or bubbling in the radiator can mean that (a) the thermostat is stuck shut, causing no water flow to the radiator (which means that if it is boiling at the radiator through convection then the engine is at melting temperature) or (b) the head gasket is blown causing the combustion gases to enter the coolant system as the piston in the cylinder creates a high pressure during the compression stroke, heating the coolant up and filling it with bubbles. White smoke from the throttle body is probably a knacked coolant pipe leaking. Everything points to a blown head gasket. There is no sealant in the world that will seal it. Most petrol vehicles run at approximately 10 bar compression , which is 150lb ft pressure. A bit of sealant goo will not hold that pressure. Ever. As you have been using the van for some time in this condition and you state that it redlines the temperature gauge then you will definitely have warped the head or possibly the block as well. If your van is old and has a cast iron engine (pinto or V4) then as a bodge you could get away with a head and/or block skim. If it is really bad and both need heavy skimming then you may have to use two head gaskets to get the compression ratio back down. This does work as I have done it myself a couple of times on friend's vehicles, but it is not recommended. It is purely a bodge to keep you going with no gaurantee of longevity. If your van has an alloy engine then the engine will probably need replacing.

Sounds like your head gasket has gone...time to get a new van as this costs a small fortune to fix...the smoke is from water in your oil because its leaking in to your oil tank..thats why you have to keep topping up your water..I bet if you dip your oil its full frothy sludge.I would check if I were you and get it to the garage as I suppose it depends on how old it is as to wether you want to fix it
Your looking at around £500.

Your Block is cracked or your head gasket is shot,,,,you are only chasing your tail on this one,,,and there is no sealant which will cure this problem.
All you are doing is making a bad problem worse.

Basicly,,,,,you need another engine,,,,,,,,period!!!

is your vehicle a car or a van? is it petrol or diesel? in general terms classic symptoms of head gasket failure. compression test. cylinder leakage test and test for exhaust gasses in coolent. to establish this.depending on results of further investigation after dissassembly pressure test head. machine and refit with a new gasket. diesel heads cast iron or alloy must be ground not fly cut.

Your head gasket has gone.If you've driven it while the engine has been too hot you may have warped the head.If you're lucky just replace the head gasket,if not you could get the head re-skimmed,or worst case is new engine.

Quick get rid of truck. Perhaps if you are lucky someone will steal it. Failing that get rebuilt motor. Failing that a used motor would be better. Whether by ignorance or just plain neglect the motor is fried.

you don,t know that the block is cracked................it may be a cylinder head or a head gasket...........you should remove the head,s to check before adding stop leak........gasket,s are cheap............cylinder head,s are cheaper than a new engine.....adding stop leak is a temporary cure at best......in the mean time you might crack your block.......don,t fool around....check it out.......you might be able to salvage your block.......maybe even the head,s.

no, don't add aditives, you have a blown head gasket, and if the head is alloy, by running it hot you have probably warped the head.
