Test how cell phones affect driving. Do this by using Mario Kart. Test before they use the phones on how many crashes they had and how long it took for them to drive. Then test them again, only have someone call them on a cell phone and ask them questions to keep them involved in the converstaion. The more people you use, the better. I was a judge at a jr. high science fair and I was really amazed by this one. The only problem I found was that the girl didn't test as many people as she could have. Try to get twenty or thirty, or more if possible.

When I was in 8th grade I did a math project on projecting the population of manatees in Florida into the future. It took about an hour of work and I got first place because not too many kids do math projects, so it's an easy category.

Use Gender Conception Probability. It's simple, and I won 1st place with it.
Basically you're just trying to explore whether or not there's truly a50/50 chance of having a boy or girl (there isn't...surprise!)
You can experiment by flipping a penny 100 times and recording the results and so on... it's not much, but it's a start.
Or.....
You can also test the cleaning power of common name brand cleaning agents.

Hey one of the best projects I ever did was build a model trebuchet with all of the physics involved with the lever, the force of gravity on the weight an finally the arc that a trebuchet shot makes.
