Who really knows. I think the Governor of La. didn't do her part. Also At one point in time La. refused an offer of help from Florida.
I think people should let go and move on. And I wonder what FEMA has learned from the situation. It was definitely a horrible catastrophe.

YES... Texas has in place a set plan. If you notice after Katrina there was another hurricane that hit the Texas coast but did not have the force as Katrina. BUT, the Texas government put all the efforts in place and on ready alert. Maybe the state government in Louisiana should look at Texas and implement some of the same disaster policies?

Texas doesn’t NEED to have intervention of the Federal Gov. in order to protect its citizens from these disasters.

Over 2 million people vacated the gulf coast of Texas in a few days. Traffic was bad, yes. But they were smart enough to go, “ Lets get out of here….”

As for Crabby saying that the RED VS BLUE States. There were towns wiped out, NOTHING left in red states. The federal government was all ready working in Louisiana cleaning up and nothing was done for the people of some of these towns in red states. WHY? Because the laws stated that the local government had to file from their town in order to gain relief monies. How do you do this when there is no town left?

If Katrina had hit Texas, the damage would not have been nearly as bad. The majority of the damage from Katrina was caused by flooding, since New Orleans is so close to the coast, and is below sea level. Had it hit Texas, it would have saved a lot of lives, so I don't think Bush is the question here.

I totally believe in my heart of hearts that if Katrina had hit Texas instead of Louisiana/Alabama the response would have been quicker. That's a very sad thought. What's even sadder is that i don't think the areas affected would still be in ruins, damn near two years later...it hurts to know that i live in the richest, most powerful country on this earth, and my government can't even take care of its people...and on top of that can turn right around and send its people to the other side of the globe and try to "incorporate democracy" into a country that seems not to want our help...CRAZINESS

If could find the time to understand the impack of hurricane. The problem is when FEMA was made part of Homeland Security and leader of FEMA had NO knowledge how to deal with the hurricane. You bet Bush would be there to protect his "oil" interest.

You bet. Bush hates Louisiana. He's going to invade Louisiana and hang the governor. Probably will start a civil war between the cajuns and the creoles. Then, his buddies at Haliburton will make billions off of Bayou Reconstruction.

What a great question, really insightful!

Well, judge by this:

In Mississippi and Alabama (Red states) federal aid for rebuilding homes and businesses is available--and actually getting to people. But in Louisiannna (Blue state) it isn't--one example--in one program for home rebuilding, FEMA has over 100,000 qualiified people signed up. But now--a year and a half later--less than 200 have actually gotten any of the promised assistance. But their neighbors in the Red states are getting theirs.

would have been interesting for a hurricane to hit central texas....plus i dont think it is below sea level, like new orleans.

i think most of the blame lies with local authorities anyway.
nagin seems like a moron. good thing they re-elected him.
