The quality of the brake pad makes up for a lot of the "squeaking" noise that you are hearing. Purchase a good brand name brake pad set such as "Wagner"., "Raysbestos" or "EIS" Included with the pads you will also geta anti squeak gel that you can add to the rear of the pads and sometims the shims are also included. You can add this anti squeak gel to the back of the shim a well.

The cheaper brake pads will always squeak on your car. So you actually get what you pay for . Brake pads are not where you want to skimp on. Cheaper pads wear oput quicker so the value is in the better name brands for your money and safety.
good luck.............

I have never heard of putting shims in brakes!, try rounding the corners off on the brake pads with a file to stop squeeky brakes.

As snake said: One shim for the back of each pad. Add CRC silicone brake quiet on the face of each shim that faces the caliper piston and the same for the shim / pad combo facing the back side of the caliper. Never under any circumstances use grease in these areas. Grease melts easily due to caliper pad heat and may migrate to the pad faces themselves.

Hello why are you using shims? It is probably the wear Indicators they are metal tabs that start to rub against your rotors when it is getting near to change brake pads! Or if you just changed shoes and didn't have rotors turned they are probably crystalized or you bought organic pads the original pads are metalic!

your probably talking about those sticky pads that goes on the brake pads to quieten them.but if your pads are squeeling then its probably the squeeler rubbing on the rotors.
