I took care of a home health patient who had this. It appeared he had diminished pain and could work fairly well. But the cartilege was damaged and that was not repairable. He ultimately got a knee replacement. I think the results of the injection depend on age, how much damage, as wella s how long you have sustained this injury.

It depends on a number of factors - specifically the type of knee injury one has.

I have an old knee injury from when I was 13 (im 48 presently). I had to go in for knee surgury the first time for a shattered knee cap. Recently had to go back into surgery due to calcium deposits snapping off and had to have these pieces removed and my knee cap reshaped.

Long story short, several weeks later I was complaining of pain and discomfort - they gave me a shot in the knee, and it helped. I was told I may or may not have to go in every six months for another shot. My knee felt fine after 24 hours or so, and havent been back in a whole year (knock wood).

As I said - it depemds on the nature of the injury plus I would imagine the younger one is the better results. The shot was not as painful as I thought it would be. It was more of a slight sting, in case you are wondering. You wont be screaming - I promise. =o)

My mother in law has injections of symvisc and she swears by them. If I am not mistaken she can only have these injections done a couple times per year.
