this may seem like a silly question but I need to know as we are trying to concieve. So I started brown spotting on Mon 26th and Tues 27th same thing but a hint of red and enogh to change a panty liner a few times during the day. But Wed 28th was heavy flow. Due you count from the heavy flow or from spotting for when you need to concieve?

I would say start from spotting but to be sure go your Doc and explain this to him to get the right answer.
In saying that... i never knew 'exactly' when i was ovulating but i figured out it was around 'this' certain week and we just went for it all week!!!! Hence, baby was concieved in that week!
Dont count on knowing every exact detail of when you ovulate etc, etc...just have FUN!!!
It'll happen when its ready!

You usually have a window of time for conception. It doesnt have to be down to the minute or even the exact day your period starts. Just count from either one. The main thing is not to become so caught up in trying that you stress yourself out. Stress will only make things harder.

I just asked my Dr that very same question and she told me that it is the first day of anything...so the brown spotting counts as day 1

Most of the fertility charting methods instruct you to count "actual bleeding not spotting" as Day 1 of your cycle.

Start counting from the first day you see any blood. This will be day one of your next cycle. Good Luck!
