I mean, like JLo, her movies are nothing close to win an Oscar but she attends the ceremony, why?

I wasn't asking what their motivation to go was; I was asking why they were invited at all. (some of you already answered that) I see the ceremony as recognition to art (not that I care too much I just assume it is), then why inviting soap opera actors???

This is one of the best questions I have seen in a long time. I ask myself this every year.
Its hard for me to try to answer this without sounding cynical but I think that a LOT of bad actors have really good agents. The agents get the Acadamy to invite their clients. The Acadamy does this because they have to pay back the agents for "lending" them their better clients to introduce awards... they even let some of the bad actors present awards too for the same reason. Everyone attached to the Oscars is as much a whore as they are a pimp.... okay, that sounded cynical. But remember when Anna Nicole Smith walked on the red carpet to the Oscars? I bet that an actual previous winner from years past was not allowed in the building but Anna Nicole Smith actually was invited.

Her publicist gets her tickets. Anyone with a minor connection can go to the Oscars. There are invites but you can buy tickets to these events. I went to the Grammys, one of my bands went and sat in the $1000 a seat section, we just bought our tickets from someone we knew who was in the Grammy foundation. The band even got interviewed by MTV because they had to make an entrance with the the other musicians due to the location of their seats.
Jessica Biel went, and she has no talent either!

i think coz all actors are accepted and invited since its an awards ceremony
plus the food is great and free.... and the gowns, and the jewelry
wont you want that too!!!

as far as they're in the showbiz,and have contracts with the studios,they're invited....Maybe it depends also on their popularity. By the way,there are the Razzie Awards 4 them ;-))
