Get a job that pays the bills. Then keep writing your poetry. Don't give up on your dream. Ever.

Ask yourself why you want to write. Is it for money? Good luck. Most writers don't make enough on writing alone to survive, and poets have it worst of all. If you're looking for fame and fortune, I'm sorry to say you'll either have to become a poet laureate (if you're in the U.S., be prepared to invest that $35,000 stipend wisely to get your fortune).
If you write for some other reason, such as relaxation, keep going. If you have ideas you like sharing, keep going.
If your dream is to have a collection published, get a theme of some sort, organize the poems you want into some significant order, and send it to agents and/or publishers. Take it into your hands and get your name out there. Go to readings. Organize readings. Prepare for rejection. Look at the rejections of other famous writers: one guy decorated his bathroom door with rejections, another accumulated about 7,000 slips. Stephen King put his rejections on a railroad spike next to his desk. No success story starts with "I packed away my dreams and shoved them into a corner in the attic, never to hear from them again."
Even if your dream is fame and fortune, keep going. Your chances are slim. But if you don't try, your chances are zilch. The writing world is tough enough. Don't add to your problems by working against yourself.
