Spy ware and ad ware are sometimes brought into your PC on the cookies(Little bits of information that make it easy to go to sites the next time.)Sometimes you can get much worse things. The spy ware tracks your surfing habits so they can design pop ups and banners based on the information they send back to where ever it is that they came from.W hen you get a lot of spy ware it will slow down your PC. I use some free ware programs to get rid of them. You need to run these programs periodicity.
Best programs for a good running PC and are free, the first two get all the add ware when you them one at a time. They caught a key logger first time I used them. The last one on the list is my favorite it cleans all the junk files and a whole lot more .Zone alarm is about as good as it gets. This and yahoo security suit are all I use to keep my PC happy.De frag and scan disk also.

If you suspect you have spyware on your computer, try using this program. It is very good.
The procedure is important. Doing it is the best way to clean your computer, but you can use ewido without the procedure if you are not comfortable doing it.
Download and Update Ewido (now called the AVG Antispyware). Do not run:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
TEMPORARILY SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
3. On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders", and clear(uncheck) the "Hide protected operating system files" check box.
IMPORTANT: Files are hidden by Windows for a very good reason. It is not wise to experiment with these files. Unfortunately, to successfully remove modern spyware we must turn this protection off temporarily. Please turn the protection back on when you have finished cleaning your system.
EMPTY INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER CACHE:
1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. Select the Delete all offline content check box in the confirmation dialogue box that appears, click OK. Click OK again.
RESTART IN SAFE MODE:
To do this you need to hold down or repeatedly tap the F8 key while the computer is booting (when the computer is displaying a black screen with white text). When the boot menu appears, use your keyboard arrows to select "Safe Mode."
Safe Mode can look quite ugly. The color may look bad, and all of your desktop icons will be very large. This is normal.
START THE SCAN WITH YOUR PROGRAM(S).
When the scan and removal are completed REBOOT COMPUTER. This will restart you in normal mode.
RESET HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.
The RESTORE POINTS may be infected with the Malware and cannot be used. Delete the old one(s) and make a new one.
CLEAR OLD RESTORE POINT(S). HERE'S HOW:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Performance and Maintenance, click System, and then click on the System Restore tab.
3. Select the Turn Off System Restore check box, click Apply, then restart your computer.
4. Return to the System Restore Tab and turn System Restore back on.
TO SET A NEW RESTORE POINT:
1. Click the Start button.
2. Point to Programs, then navigate to Accessories, then System Tools, then click System Restore.
3. Choose Create a restore point, and then click Next.
4. In the Restore point description box, type a name for your restore point, and then click Next.
5. Click OK.
NOTE: If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and are unable to access the Internet after removing Malware, there is a command that may fix the problem. It works by resetting the winsock catalogue. Click on Start, then Run and type CMD in the box. Click OK. Type "netsh winsock reset" (no quotes)into the DOS window that appears.

Spyware is a program that tracks your web surfing and reports back to the originator. Companies use it to "target" advertisments to your interests and activities. Other than that it invades your privacy and might slow your computer it is harmless. The spyware removal software recommended should do the trick.

Download Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AND Windows Defender. They're all free, and take different spyware programs off. Unlike virus programs, spyware are not all the same.

Spyware could be programs running in the background unseen, or tracking cookies. They appear from many websites by cookis, or come bundled in software downloads. If you choose to download ActiveX sometimes it is not what you think. Try using the free Microsoft spyware tool from their website or AVG. Google AVG and download that if you like.

Spyware is a term used to describe software that tracks internet and computer usage. Some is used for marketing purposes (targeting banner ads to your browser habits) while others are used to steal private information (also known as keyloggers).
Go to http://www.superantispyware.com
Download, install, update and run that program. Follow the directions given.

spyware, by definition, is any program that collects information about your computer, or browsing habits, and sends it back to it's home computer without your consent.
I would suggest downloading and using one of the following:
Spybot s&d from http://www.safer-networking.org
Adaware SE from http://lavasoft.de
or Microsoft Defender from http://microsoft.com.
