start off with just a few spoonfuls at a time, starting with rice cereal (easiest to digest) and gradually add variety and increase amounts.
Be sure to only start one new food at a time and change nothing for a few days in case ab allergy crops up, so you can easily pinpoint what food is the problem.
Good luck!

I started my daughter on rice cereal at 3 months (doctor didn't mind either). I added alittle breast milk to about 4 tablespoons... She's almost 9 months now and we just introduced her to table food...
I would start off w/ cereal once or twice a day for the next couple of weeks... If he does fine, then introduce babyfood-- start w/ yellow veggies b/c it's easier on their tummy-- I would feed him until he's full.. he'll probably eat 1/2 a jar at first, maybe the whole jar... but I wouldn't give him more than that for now... My daughter eats 2oz of yogurt in the morning, 4oz babyfood at noon and 2 oz at 4:30 then dinner (table food) at 5:45 or 6pm. At 6 months she was eating 4 oz of babyfood at 5pm instead of the late dinner and afternoon snack. I hope that helps... but please, do what you think is best for him.. you know him better than anyone else.

as my baby is constipated alot (GI problems) i can tell you what to do for that...
first of all, if your baby is constipated don't give him rice cereal- it's more constipating- so stay away from white rice, white bread, rice cereal, bananas, apples, cooked carrots, milk, and cheese... try to add some fiber to the babies diet such as bran and barley cereals, graham cracker, peas, broccoli, and peans... the best fruits to give are apricots, prunes, pears, plums, and peaches... try to give your baby a small bottle of water (2-4 ounces) or even prune juice (around 2 ounces straight, or mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water if you like to make it 4 ounces) my baby loves the prune juice... you can also try glycerin suppositores (use child sized ones cut in half lengthwise)- make sure your hands are clean before inserting, hold it in for as long as you can (baby will probably cry or scream) and then diaper (if he hasn't gone already) and he should have a BM within 1 hour. stay away from laxatives as they can cause abdominal cramping and make for a very unhappy baby.

you should start slow with a few teaspoons of rice cereal and gradually move up to a whole meal, then two and three, ect. When introducing new baby foods, only do one at a time and give it three days to a week to make sure the child is not allergic.

Oh my gosh he must be starving. This ridiculous advice they are giving nowdays to not feed a baby solids till they are six months old is absurd. Start with baby cereal, a small bowl made rather thin, three times a day. Thicken it up as he gets used to using the spoon and swallowing the cereal.
