1. Drop the parenthasis and distribute the negative signs to both numbers:
4x-x-1=x-x+5
(x- - 5 is the same as x+5)
2. Add like terms.
3x-1=5
(the "x-x" is now gone because that would be 0x)
3. To get "x" by itself, add subtract -1 to both sides (to get rid of the -1). Since subtracting -1 is the same as adding 1, adding will work also.
3x-1+1=5+1
3x= 6
4. Divide both sides by three (to find what a single "x" is.)
3x/3=6/3
x=2
Now check the problem to make sure it is correct:
4(2)-(2+1)=2-(2-5)
8-3=2 - - 3
5=5
Correct!

Hello ..
Recall..
when negative sign is outside the parenthesis ...sign inside
the parenthesis get reversed (during simplification)

so 4x - ( x + 1 ) = 4x - x - 1
and x - ( x - 5 ) = x - x + 5 ( x get cancel)

so given question reduced to ..
4x -x - 1 = 5 ( 4 apple - 1 apple = 3 apple )

combine like terms ...
3x - 1= 5 (add 1 to both sides )

3x = 6 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = 2
this is final answer.....
hope this will help you ..

you have to combine everything and that means first distibuting the minus signs in front of the parenthesis:
4x-(x+1) >>>>> 4x - x - 1
or 3x-1
x-(x-5) >>>>>> x - x + 5
or 5
soo 3x-1=5
3x=6
x = 2

hope that helped!!
